- Ridge Walk North Living and Learning Neighborhood
In June 2023, ground was broken on the site of the former Marshall Lowers for the Ridge Walk North Living and Learning Neighborhood; the former TMC Administration Building, Economics Building, and Sequoyah Hall were also demolished as part of the project. In its place, four buildings were planned:
Alianza, a residential high-rise;
Umoja, a residential high-rise with the Marshall ResLife Office;
Coalition, a mixed use building that includes housing as well as the new TMC Administration Office, TMC Dimensions of Culture (DOC) Program Office and classrooms for DOC sections, Goody’s Market, Glass Center, ESports, and general use classrooms for the campus; and
Brian C. Malk Hall, the new home for Economics and Global Policy & Strategy.
Outdoor spaces for student programming, studying, dining, and socializing were also planned. Marshall Field–open space for outdoor sports, relaxation, and events–will reopen on the west side of Ridge Walk.
Throughout the process of designing and building the spaces, Marshall College students, alumni, and staff were involved in providing feedback and ideas, and also served on committees related to the project. Vibrant new residential spaces opened in Fall 2025, with the academic spaces to follow closely in Winter 2026.
Please check back soon as we are actively building out content to tell the story of how students, alumni, and staff helped to shape the design, amenities, names, and overall “feel” of the Ridge Walk North Living Learning Neighborhood. Future content will include:
How the buildings and exterior spaces were named
Residential floor names and artwork
How the letters from the former Marshall Upper and Lower Apartments and Residence Halls were repurposed
History and placement of public art on the site
How the Basic Needs Hub expansion came to be part of the project
Special touches: Signed beams, Design-Build/College partnerships, student involvement in decision-making, and much more!
