Tips on Residential Key Success
- For your convenience and security, always carry your keys with you and LOCK ALL YOUR DOORS. Being locked out is no fun, a waste of time, and can get expensive!
- There is a $65 replacement fee for a lost bedroom key. For the safety of you and your roommates, you must report a lost key to your Residential Life office immediately.
- Remember that it is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct to duplicate University keys, and violators will be subject to disciplinary action.
- No one may check out a key to a room other than their own. Attempts are also considered a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.
- Make sure you NEVER lend your key or key code to someone else, again for obvious safety and security reasons.
- Never prop your front door of your suite or apartment, especially using the deadbolt to keep it open. The e-locks are easily damaged this way and cost thousands to replace. In the event that your e-lock is damaged by negligence and abuse, you and your suitemates/apartment mates will be billed to cover the replacement costs.
If you are locked out over a holiday or break, you may be directed to the UC San Diego Police Department (UCPD). You may be charged for this service, even if it is your first lockout. Lockouts can generally be handled within a few minutes, but you may be asked to wait up to an hour or longer.
