What is Themed Housing?
Themed housing at Marshall College is more than just a place to live—it's a community where students can connect with others who share similar backgrounds, experiences, and interests.
How do I apply for Themed Housing?
All incoming first year Marshall students with an active housing contract for the 2025-2026 academic year are eligible to apply. We will be reaching out to incoming students in the summer of 2025. For additional information, please contact the Marshall ResLife office at tmreslife@ucsd.edu.
If you are interested in joining our Themed Housing, the current process is outlined below:
- Apply for housing through HDH, visit here for current information.
- IF you are offered a contract, you will then need to sign the contract and pay the deposit (generally $450) to HDH.
- Our office will then contact you to see if you wish to opt into our themed housing.
- If you opt into our themed housing, you will be sent an application.
- If your application is approved, the Marshall Res. Life office will contact you with an offer.
- Accept the offer.
- The Marshall ResLife office will contact you regarding any preferred roommates or roommate groups.
- Housing assignments will be sent to students.
Please note that applying to Themed Housing DOES NOT guarantee that you will be offered a space.
All eligible students are encouraged to apply. Marshall Themed Housing does not consider race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and/or other protected categories as part of the application and selection process.

First Generation Themed Housing
We are excited to announce the launch of our inaugural first-generation college student-themed housing at Thurgood Marshall College! This new housing option is designed to provide a supportive and inclusive community for first-gen students, offering specialized resources and programming to help you succeed both academically and personally.
The First-Geneneration themed housing at Marshall College is more than just a place to live—it's a community where students can connect with others who share similar backgrounds and experiences. Residents will have access to exclusive events, workshops, and mentorship opportunities tailored to first-gen students, providing residents with the support they need to thrive in college and beyond. We believe that by creating a supportive and inclusive environment, we can help first-generation students achieve their full potential and celebrate their unique achievements.
Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Themed Housing
Marshall Residential Life is excited to announce the launch of the inaugural Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) themed housing! This new housing option at Thurgood Marshall College is designed to provide a supportive and inclusive community for AAPI students and their allies, offering specialized resources and programming rooted in AAPI student experiences, needs, and activism.
The AAPI themed housing at Marshall College is more than just a place to live—it's a community where students can connect with others who share similar backgrounds, experiences, and interests. Residents will have access to exclusive events, workshops, and mentorship opportunities tailored to AAPI students, providing residents with the opportunity to explore AAPI identities, histories, and cultures. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, themed housing can help students explore AAPI identities, histories, and cultures as well as build a community in which all themed housing residents can thrive.
